04 Jul – 08 Jul 2016

Bond ETFs experienced another week of fund outflows, this time at a rate which should raise a few eyebrows. Across the whole segment fund outflow was equivalent to a whopping 6% and it was the result of investors withdrawing substantial amounts from three funds. Withdrawals from BetaShares Australian High Interest Cash ETF were worth 5%, but the Russell Australian Government Bond ETF and the RSM Russell Australian Semi-Government Bond ETF were the main targets and these two funds had withdrawals equivalent to 59% and 55% respectively. These latter two ETFs are relatively small compared to the BetaShares cash ETF but even so the size of the withdrawals suggests an asset allocation adjustment.
