Of the funds surveyed by YieldReport, the best performer for February was IOOF’s Cash Management Trust with a return of 0.17%, down from January’s 0.19%. Tied for second in the rankings were perennial bridesmaid UBS and BT who produced 0.16% for the month after rounding. IOOF’s CMT also had the best performance in all of the time periods ranging from 3 months to five years, while the UBS cash fund was in second place across all time periods.

 The benchmark Bloomberg AusBond Bank Bill Index returned 0.19% for the month, 2.25% for 1 year and 3.28% (annualised) over 5 years. None of the funds in the survey outperformed the benchmark in any of these time periods (see table below).

In the enhanced cash category, the best performing fund for February was the UCA’s Enhanced Cash Plus with a return of 0.25% for the month, which is 6bps more than the benchmark AusBond Bank Bill Index. The next best performer was the Vanguard Cash Plus fund with a return of 0.20% for the month

UCA’s Enhanced Cash ​Portfolio was ranked first across all time frames in the YieldReport survey, returning 3.34% for 1 year, 3.97% pa for 3 years and 4.73% pa for 5 years. It invests in a blend of cash, money market and fixed interest securities, registered first mortgages and loans to UCA organisations and employees. At the end of 2015, short term securities and cash made up 50% of the fund’s assets, while the other 50% comprised medium-securities and loans. The UCA fund is only available for investment by eligible not-for-profits with a tax concession charity endorsement from the ATO.
