U.S. stock performance was mixed today, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) falling 0.6% to 42,114.40, the S&P 500 remaining flat at 5,808.12, and the Nasdaq gaining 0.6% to close at 18,518.61.
Leading the gains among S&P 500 companies, Tapestry Inc surged 13.56%, Deckers Outdoor Corp rose by 10.64%, and Digital Realty Trust Inc increased 9.44%.
The largest declines were seen in Mohawk Industries Inc, down 13.82%, Universal Health Services Inc, which dropped 9.75%, and HCA Healthcare Inc, falling 8.86%.
LOCAL MARKET
Australian shares are expected to open slightly lower, following a mixed finish for U.S. markets. ASX futures were down 0.02%, or 2 points, at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, indicating a lower start. In the U.S., stocks ended the week with mixed results amid a busy week of earnings. Both the S&P 500 and Dow Industrials recorded their first weekly declines since early September, while the Nasdaq rose for the seventh week in a row.
This week, notable earnings reports are expected from major tech companies, including Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple. Key economic data, such as the October payrolls report, will also be in focus. The DJIA dropped 259 points, or 0.6%, to 42,114, the S&P 500 edged down by 1 point to 5,808, while the Nasdaq increased 0.6% to 18,518.
In commodities, Brent crude oil gained 2.3% to reach $76.05 per barrel, and gold rose 0.4% to $2,747.56. The Australian dollar was trading at 66.03 U.S. cents.
