The median trading margin of ASX-listed hybrids decreased as the number of securities with lower spreads to BBSW outweighed securities with higher spreads by a ratio of 3:1. By the end of the week, the median trading margin had decreased from 2.56% to 2.39%, a reading which is well below the lower bound of its “normal” ten-year trading range and in line with the low reached in July 2014.
Trading margins of most hybrids varied within a range of -29bps to +8bps. Ignoring short-dated securities, the margins of Suncorp Capital Notes 2 (code: SUNPG, -67bps) and Challenger Capital Notes 2 (code: CGFZPB, -45bps) had the largest (absolute) changes over the week.
Westpac Bank Capital Notes 8 (code: WBCPK) begin trading this coming Thursday, 16 September.

The gross return may contain imputation credits. BBSW typically is around 15bps (average since 1990) more than the RBA rate.
