Summary: Moderate number of rate changes; 40 reductions, 6 increases; changes from two major banks; noticeable changes from RaboBank, AMP, People’s Choice, Heritage; highest rate in survey unchanged.
There were a moderate number of rate changes made by banks, building societies and other approved deposit-taking institutions (ADIs) in this week’s YieldReport survey. Of the 46 changes which occurred, 40 took the form of rate reductions.
Two of the major banks changed their term-deposit rates. ANZ reduced its 1-year by 20bps while NAB lowered its 6-month and 1-year rates by the same amount.
Among the smaller ADIs, the most notable changes came from RaboBank Australia. Rates on its terms of 3 months and longer were all reduced by amounts ranging from 15bps to 50bps.
AMP Bank’s changes were not quite as broad. Its 5-month, 9-month and 1-year rates were reduced by 20bps, 5bps and 35bps respectively whiles rates on terms of 2 years and longer were each cut by 45bps.
Changes made by People’s Choice and Heritage Bank were also notable. Both ADI’s raised their 6-month and 9-month rates by 15bps and 70bps respectively. Both also lowered their 1-year rates by 25bps.
