US MARKET
U.S. stocks closed higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) climbing 0.7% to reach 41,393.78. The S&P 500 gained 0.5%, closing at 5,626.02, while the Nasdaq rose by 0.7% to 17,683.98.
Within the S&P 500, the top performers were Warner Bros. Discovery Inc, which surged 10.84%, Etsy Inc, up 7.56%, and Align Technology Inc, which increased 6.50%.
On the downside, the biggest losers were Adobe Inc, falling 8.48%, Garmin Ltd, down 5.53%, and Boeing Co, which declined 3.72%.
LOCAL MARKETAustralian shares are set to open higher after US stocks rose on rate-cut hopes. ASX futures were up 0.19% (16 points) at 8:00 AM Monday.
US indexes gained as investors saw a 50% chance of a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut on Wednesday. Warner Bros. Discovery led the S&P 500, up 11% after renewing a deal with Charter Communications.
The Nasdaq rose 0.7% Friday (up 6% for the week), S&P 500 added 0.5% (up 4% for the week), and the DJIA gained 0.7% (up 2.6% for the week). Brent crude fell 0.5% to $71.61, gold rose 0.8% to $2,577.70, and the AUD was at 67.02 US cents.
