US MARKET
U.S. stocks closed higher today, with the DJIA climbing 0.6% to 40,896.53, the S&P 500 increasing by 1.0% to 5,608.25, and the Nasdaq advancing 1.4% to 17,876.77.
In the S&P 500, the top performers were EQT Corp, which surged 4.9%, Advanced Micro Devices Inc, which jumped 4.5%, and Darden Restaurants Inc, which rose 4.4%.
On the downside, HP Inc saw the largest decline, dropping 3.7%, followed by Starbucks Corp, which fell 2.7%, and Domino’s Pizza Inc, which decreased by 2.3%.
LOCAL MARKET
Australian shares are set to open higher, with ASX futures up 0.45% or 36 points as of 8:00am Tuesday, following gains in US stocks.
On Monday, US stocks extended their winning streak, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite achieving their eighth straight day of gains. The S&P 500 rose 1%, the Nasdaq advanced 1.4%, and the Dow Jones increased 0.6%.
In commodities, Brent crude oil dropped 2.4% to US$77.80 per barrel, while gold was unchanged at US$2,503.72. The Australian dollar rose to 67.31 US cents from 66.70.
