US MARKET

U.S. stock futures showed modest gains, with S&P 500 futures up 0.2%, Dow Jones futures rising 0.3%, and Nasdaq 100 futures climbing 0.4% in light trading due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Reports indicating that U.S. restrictions on semiconductor equipment and AI chip sales to China may be less stringent than anticipated buoyed sentiment, particularly in technology sectors abroad.

Markets are looking ahead to “Black Friday,” which marks the unofficial start of the U.S. holiday shopping season. The day follows a period of strong consumer resilience, though concerns about inflation and tighter credit conditions linger.

Attention will also turn to Friday’s Eurozone inflation data and the European Central Bank’s consumer expectations survey, which may provide further signals for global monetary policy trends.

LOCAL MARKET

Australian shares are set to open lower, with ASX futures down 26 points, or 0.3%, as of 7am AEDT, reflecting cautious sentiment amid subdued trading globally during the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. European markets closed higher, led by gains in technology stocks after reports suggested the U.S. may announce looser-than-expected restrictions on semiconductor chip sales to China as early as next week.

On the local front, Friday’s trading will see Select Harvests release earnings, while Paladin Energy and Scentre Group hold their annual general meetings. Aristocrat Leisure shares are also set to trade ex-dividend, drawing investor focus as the week wraps up.
